According to the complaint lodged with the Bhulath police, the victim, Vishav Partap Singh, a resident of Karnail Ganj, stated that Vijay Kumar, originally from Kapurthala, had been living in the village for several years on rent and working as a goldsmith. Singh recounted that he approached Kumar to commission gold ornaments, during which Kumar suggested that gold was cheaper in Hoshiarpur and offered to take him there.
Acting on the assurance, Singh accompanied the accused to what was presented as a major jeweller’s shop, where gold worth around Rs 9.5 lakh was purchased. When Singh asked for a proper bill, Kumar reportedly dissuaded him, claiming that the bill would attract additional tax, advising him to let the matter be. Falling into the trap, Singh further handed over Rs 2.5 lakh in cash to Kumar for making the ornaments. A formal written complaint has been submitted to the police.
