The Nakodar Sadar police have booked a Capital Bank branch officer on the charge of embezzling Rs 82.51 lakh.

SP (D) Mukhtiar Rai said the suspect had been identified as Abhishek Khanna, a resident of Ajit Avenue, Kapurthala.

Harinder Singh, a resident of Bombe Nagar, Jalandhar, told the police that he was a deputy HDO, Operations Risk Department, Capital Small Finance Bank, Jalandhar.

He said Abhishek was working as an executive teller at the bank’s branch in Uggi and was responsible for replenishing cash in the ATM since August 2021.

Harinder said while checking, it was found that the suspect misappropriated Rs 82.51 lakh of the bank. Legal action was demanded against him.

The SP said after an inquiry, the police registered a case against the bank officer. He said a case under Sections 406 (breach of trust), 409 (criminal breach of trust by a person in a business capacity) and 420 (cheating) of the IPC has been registered against the accused.
