The Asmita Hockey League (junior and sub-junior category for girls) organised by the Union Ministry of Sports, Sports Authority of India and Hockey India in collaboration with Hockey Punjab at Olympian Surjit Hockey Stadium came to a successful conclusion here today.

In the junior category, Bathinda won the title while in the sub-junior category, Mohali lifted the trophy. The winning teams were awarded Rs 2 lakh each and trophies while the second placed teams were awarded Rs 1.60 lakh and the runners-up trophy. The teams that came third were awarded Rs 1.20 lakh and a trophy. The prizes were distributed to the winning teams by Olympians Harpreet Singh Mander, Baljit Singh Dhillon and Sanjeev Kumar. Amrik Singh Powar, general secretary, Hockey Punjab, and Sports Authority of India selector Mukesh Kumar also did the honours.

The final match of the junior category was exciting. Bathinda won the title defeating Jalandhar 4-3 in sudden death. Both the teams were tied 2-2 by the end of the stipulated time. In the sub-junior category, Mohali won the title defeating Bathinda 4-2. In the junior category, Mohali came third, defeating Muktsar by a margin of 2-1, while in the sub-junior category, Muktsar defeated Amritsar 2-1 to secure the third place.
