Bhag Singh varsity hosts 6th annual convocation, honours 599 graduates

The event was held under the patronage of Sant Baba Malkit Singh and Sant Baba Dilawar Singh Brahm, in the presence of Chancellor Sant Manmohan Singh, Vice Chancellor Prof (Dr) Dharmjit Singh Parmar, and Secretary Hardaman Singh Minhas.
The ceremony began with the lighting of the ceremonial lamp by the chief guest, Prof (Dr) Susheel Mittal, Vice-Chancellor of IK Gujral Punjab Technical University, accompanied by other dignitaries. Guests were warmly welcomed with floral greetings, followed by a melodious Shabad Gayan that set a serene tone for the event. The Chancellor then formally declared the convocation open.
In his welcome address, Vice Chancellor Dr Parmar reflected on the deeper meaning of convocation, urging students to view their degrees as symbols of hard work, dedication, and lifelong learning. He highlighted the pivotal role of education in shaping individuals, society, and the nation, noting that universities serve as pillars of progress, fostering global opportunities, peace, and innovation.
Dr Parmar shared that Sant Baba Bhag Singh University, established in 2014 under the Punjab Government Act No 6 of 2015 and recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC), holds the distinction of being Punjab’s first rural university. Accredited by NAAC, the university houses eight institutes dedicated to providing value-based and career-oriented education.
Dean Academics Dr Vijay Dhir presented the annual report, outlining the university’s key achievements and initiatives. He emphasised the successful implementation of the National Education Policy (NEP) with a focus on interdisciplinary research and skill development.
A total of 599 students were awarded degrees, including undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral degrees. Among them, eight students received gold medals for outstanding academic performance, while four students were honoured with the Governor’s Award for excellence in academics, culture, and extracurricular activities.
