Phagwara: A man sustained injuries due to a Chinese string near Chachoki village on Friday. As per information, the victim has been identified as Tirlok Singh (50), a resident of Ghumman village near Phagwara. He was on his way home on a bike when the string got wrapped around his neck, leading to cuts on his face, mouth, nose and eyes. Senior Medical Officer Dr Lehmber Ram said the victim was referred to another hospital after being administered first aid at the Civil Hospital. OC

Woman’s purse snatched, 1 held

Phagwara: The Nakodar city police have arrested a Mehat Pur miscreant and booked his accomplice for snatching a woman’s purse. Investigating officer (IO) Rajinder Pal Singh said the suspect had been identified as Sukhdeep Bawa Rahul, while his accomplice had been identified as Vishal, alias Chuha, both residents of Mohalla Khuram Pur, Mehat Pur. Baljinder Kaur, a resident of Mohalla Gahrriyan, Nakodar, told the police that while she was going with her husband on a scooter on the evening of January 27, the motorcycle-borne miscreants snatched her purse on the Nakodar Jalandhar road. She said the purse contained Rs 2,000, gold and silver ornaments and important documents. A case under Sections 379-B and 34 of the IPC has been registered. OC

Thieves strike at general store

Phagwara: A general store was found reportedly burgled in Guru Teg Bahadur Nagar here on Saturday night. The victim, Daljit Kumar, told the police that he went home after locking the store on Saturday night. When he returned in the morning, he found the store burgled. The suspects entered the store after demolishing the wall and took away goods worth around Rs 25,000. The police have registered a case in this regard. OC

Man nabbed for criminal trespass

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have arrested a person on the charge of illegal construction on an NRI’s plot. Investigating officer (IO) Kashmir Singh said the suspect had been identified as Mandan Lal, a resident of Model Town, Shahkot. Kulwinder Singh, a native of Said Pur Jirri village and presently living in England, had complained to the police that the suspect forcibly and illegally constructed a building on his plot in Model Town. A case under Section 447 of the IPC was registered against the suspect and his son Rohit Arora, who is absconding.
