Grewal, with utmost humility, acknowledged the devastating impact of recent rains and floods on Punjab, describing it as the “darkest hour” for the state. He highlighted the severe destruction, with thousands of acres of crops submerged, homes destroyed, lives lost and livestock perished. Over lakhs of people have been displaced from their native villages, seeking shelter in relief camps.
In a statement, Grewal revealed that he had earlier written to Prime Minister Modi, requesting a Special Relief Package for the state. He also appealed for immediate compensation for affected farmers and victims, the deployment of central assessment teams, and the formulation of a long-term flood management and prevention plan to avoid similar tragedies in the future.
Grewal expressed his appreciation for the ongoing efforts of the Central Government, including the Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, the National Disaster Management Authority, the National Disaster Response Force and the Ministry of Agriculture & Farmers’ Welfare. However, he emphasised that the scale of the disaster demands further urgent action and compassionate intervention from the Central Government under the leadership of PM Modi.
“The anticipated visit of Prime Minister Modi Ji will not only bring immediate relief but also restore hope and confidence in the hearts of millions of Punjabis who are enduring this difficult crisis,” Grewal stated. He also mentioned that the expected announcement of a major economic package and compensation would serve as a lifeline for the affected families and farmers in Punjab.
Reminding the nation of Punjab’s crucial role as India’s “food bowl,” Grewal noted that while the state has always fed the country through its sacrifices and hard work, it now looks to the Central leadership for support during this challenging time.
Concluding, Grewal expressed optimism that with Prime Minister Modi’s leadership and guidance, Punjab will rise stronger and more resilient, reaffirming its faith in the unity and compassion of India.
