Boost for green belt, roads as F&CC meet approves Rs 18.5 crore works

Most of these works pertained to roads and parks, many of which had already been started in anticipation of their approval. The road projects that got approval of the committee headed by Mayor Vaneet Dhir and MC Commissioner Sandeep Rishi include those in Abadpura, Nizatam Nagar, Patwarkhana road, Gobind Nagar, Manjit Nagar, Avtar Nagar, Kartar Nagar, Jallowal Abadi, Ram Nagar etc.
The projects for parks which have been approved include those in JP Nagar, Guru Ravidass Park, Mithu Basti Road, Deen Dyal Upadhaya Nagar, Jain Colony and Harbans Nagar. The committee blacklisted a company since it belonged to the father-in-law of a Junior Engineer (JE) serving on outsourced basis. As per the MC bylaws, no firm owned by the family members of a serving employee of the MC can get any contract.
Meanwhile, major development initiatives worth Rs 1.65 crore were launched in the Jalandhar Central constituency on Saturday. The projects include the construction of a modern green belt in the PAP area at a cost of approximately Rs 99 lakh, a road development project worth Rs 21 lakh in Ward 67, and road construction and upgrade works costing Rs 45 lakh in Ward 30. Launching the project, Jalandhar Central halqa in-charge of AAP, Nitin Kohli said, "Our focus is to enhance road connectivity, ensure cleaner surroundings, and improve the daily commuting experience for residents. These projects reflect the commitment to providing long-term benefits to the public".
Mayor Vaneet Dhir, who was present during the event, said the initiatives will contribute significantly to strengthening the city's civic infrastructure. "The development of the green belt will support environmental sustainability, while the road projects will ease movement and provide relief to residents," he added.
