The initiative spearheaded by the Jalandhar administration has transformed the under-bridge area at BMC Chowk into a vibrant box cricket ground, aimed at channeling youth energy into sports and positive recreation. Accompained by Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal and AAP leader Nitin Kohli, the minister said the project is aimed to promote a culture of sports and wellness across Punjab.
Bhagat said more such projects will come up in the city in the coming days. The DC, who oversaw the project’s execution, said the box cricket arena offers opportunities for students, office-goers, and local residents to play during their leisure hours. He added that lighting arrangements have been made to facilitate evening matches, ensuring the ground remains active throughout the day.
Notably, box cricket — a fast-paced, enclosed version of traditional cricket — has gained popularity in urban areas for its accessibility and entertainment value. The minister and the DC also played an inaugural shot while inaugurating the new beat cricket facility.
