Phagwara: The Mehat Pur police have booked Sukhvinder Singh, a resident of Naurang Ke Leli village in Ferozepur, in a dowry harassment case. Complainant Balvinder, a resident of Rai Pur Ariyan village, who was married to Sukhvinder Singh, lodged a complaint with the Senior Superintendent of Police, Jalandhar (Rural), stating that her husband had been harassing her and demanding more and more dowry since her marriage. He also established illicit relations with another woman and threatened her with dire consequences. Investigating officer Davinder Singh said a case under Sections 498-A (husband or relative of a woman subjecting her to cruelty) and 406 (breach of trust) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC had been registered. Woman’s modesty outraged, 1 booked

Phagwara: The Lohian Khas police have booked a person on the charge of outraging a woman’s modesty. Investigating officer (IO) Bhajan Singh said the suspect had been identified as Satnam Singh, alias Sattu, a resident of Chak Pippli village. In her complaint to the police, the woman stated that the suspect misbehaved with her while she had gone to attend the nature’s call. The IO said a case under Sections 354 (criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the IPC had been registered against the suspect. Raids were being conducted to nab the absconding person. OC

15 booked on assault charge

Phagwara: The Mehat Pur police have booked 15 persons on the charge of assaulting a villager. Investigating officer (IO) Jaswinder Singh said the suspects had been identified as Riki, Jaspal, Daljit Suni Pal and Ramdeep, all residents of Aadramann village, and their 10 unidentified accomplices. Shamuan, a resident of the same village, complained to the police that the suspects assaulted him on February 9 and threatened him. The IO said a case under Sections 323, 324 (voluntarily causing hurt with dangerous weapons), 427(mischief), 506 (criminal intimidation), 148 and 149 (rioting) of the IPC had been registered. OC

Man nabbed with 500 gm of opium

Hoshiarpur: The Tanda police arrested a person on the charge of smuggling narcotics. The police signalled a person to stop his car for checking at a naka at Rara bridge. During search, the police recovered 500 grams of opium from his possession. The suspect has been identified as Gurdilbagh Singh, a resident of Civil Lines, Qadian, Gurdaspur district. A case under the NDPS Act was registered. The suspect was produced before a court, which sent him to police remand. Further investigations were on in the case. OC

Tractor-trailer catches fire

Talwara: A tractor-trailer coming from Mukerian carrying bales of stubble suddenly caught fire. In the accident, all the bales of stubble were burnt. Balvir Singh, a resident of Bharpur Kalan village, Khanna, was going from Talwara-Hajipur-Mukerian road towards the industrial centre Sansarpur terrace in Himachal Pradesh carrying bales of straw on his Mahindra tractor-trolley. One of the straw bales loaded in the trolley suddenly caught fire as soon as it reached Dheer Poultry Farm on Hajipur-Mukerian road. Hajipur Police and Fire Department Talwara employees reached the spot but were too late. The cause of the fire could not be determined. TNS

Five held with drugs, liquor

Hoshiarpur: The district police recovered drugs from various locations and arrested five suspects, including a woman. The police, acting on a tip-off, arrested two smugglers and recovered 233 gm of intoxicants from them. The suspects have been identified as Amanpreet alias Mani and Karan Singh alias Karan, residents of Islamabad. Meanwhile, Garhshankar police have arrested Balvinder Singh, a resident of Sujanpur and recovered 36 bottles of liquor from him. Hajipur police have arrested Jagan Bhandari alias Sunny, a resident of Talwara, recovering 4 gm of heroin from him. Tanda police have arrested Sukhwinder Kaur alias Babbi, a resident of Darapur and recovered 18,750 ml of liquor from her. TNS

Two booked for Rs 1.23-lakh fraud

Hoshiarpur: The Dasuya police have booked two suspects for allegedly cheating an amount of Rs 1.23 lakh on the pretext of sending aspirants abroad. Dharmendra Masih, a resident of Changla village, told the police that the suspects Mandeep Singh and Maninder Singh, alias Sunny, residents of Guru Nanak Nagar, Jalandhar, allegedly cheated him of Rs 1.23 lakh on the pretext of sending him to Dubai. The police have registered a case.
