Phagwara: The police have arrested a 'drug peddler' and recovered 75 intoxicating tablets from his possession on Thursday night.The peddler identified as Tejbir Singh, alias Patwari, resident of Model Town, Phagwara, was nabbed at a check point near Satlej Hospital, Phagwara. A case has been registered against the accused. oc

Three travel agents booked

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked three travel agents for allegedly duping a villager of Rs 6 lakh on the pretext of sending his son abroad. The accused had been identified as Nishan, a resident of Employees Colony, Shahkot, Surindar Kumar and Lovely, of the same locality. Harjinder Singh of Bajwa Kalan village complained to the police that he had paid Rs 6 lakh to the accused for facilitating his son's migration abroad. However, neither was he sent abroad, nor did he get the money back. oc

8 booked for assault

Phagwara: The police have booked eight villagers, including two women, on the charge of assaulting a co-villager. The accused have been identified as Kulwant Singh of Tahli village, his wife Rajwindar Kaur, sons Manjindar Singh and Saiman Singh, and daughter-in-law Rajveer Kaur and their three accomplices. Harpreet Singh complained to the police that the accused waylaid him on June 17 and attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, seriously injuring him on June 17. He said a land dispute is the reason behind the attack and the two accused are his cousins, who want to encroach his land. oc

Booked for stealing bike

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked a person on the charge of stealing a motorcycle. Dalbir Singh of Khurampur village complained to the police that thieves stole his motorcycle parked outside his house on June 8. A case has been registered against an unidentified accused. oc

8 booked for kidnapping

Phagwara: The Mehatpur police have booked eight persons, including a woman, on charges of kidnapping a woman and criminal intimidation. The accused have been identified as Sukhi of Barnala, Sukhwindar Singh of Bangiwal village, Gagandeep Singh of Akbarpur Kalan village, and their five accomplices. Surjit Kaur of Sohal Khalsa village complained to the police that the accused had kidnapped her sister Simarjit Kaur, living with her, and threatened her with dire consequences. oc

Inmate HURT IN Kapurthala JAIL fight

Kapurthala: An inmate, identified as Rajan, was allegedly assaulted on Thursday night while attempting to intervene in a dispute between two rival groups inside the prison. He was rushed to the Civil Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment. The police have launched a preliminary investigation into the matter. oc
