Phagwara: The police have registered a case against two individuals and arrested one accused in a mobile phone snatching case. Javed Ahmed, a resident of Preet Nagar, reported the incident to the police. According to his statement, while he was travelling, two youths on a scooter approached him from behind and snatched his mobile phone. Acting swiftly on the complaint, the police registered a case against Sukha Singh of Gobindpura and Kamaljit Bangar of Chachrari. Bangar has been arrested, while efforts are underway to apprehend the second accused. oc

Youth abducted, five arrested

Phagwara: On a complaint lodged by UP resident Salim, the police have registered a case against five youths on the charge of abducting his son. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the police investigated the matter and arrested all five accused identified as Ravi Kumar (Phagwara), Palwinder Singh (Ramgarh), Raj Kumar and Sayeed (Garhshankar) and Jiwan (Mahilpur), who have confessed to their involvement in abducting the youth along with his car, which has also been recovered. oc

‘Drug peddler’ arrested

Phagwara: The police have arrested a ‘drug peddler’ and recovered 5 gm of heroin from his possession on Saturday night. Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur Bhatti said the accused identified as Raja of Amritsar was nabbed during a search operation conducted in Chhajj Colony, Phagwara. A case has been registered. oc

Man booked for rash driving

Phagwara: The Nurmahal police have booked a Hoshiarpur man on the charge of rash driving, causing grievous hurt and mischief. The accused had been identified as Davindar Singh of Ambala Jattan village in Hoshiarpur. Sunil, alias Deepu, of Mohalla Falahiwala complained to the police that he was carrying seven girls in his three-wheeler on February 22 when the accused's vehicle hit three-wheeler, injuring all passengers. oc

Five booked

for assault

Phagwara: The police have booked five villagers on the charge of assaulting their co-villager. The accused have been identified as Vikas, Mohit, Ajay Gill Vikas and Arun, all residents of Mudh village. Sahil of the same village complained to the police that the accused attacked him with sharp-edged weapons, seriously injuring him on February 25 late evening and threatening him with dire consequences. oc

Vajra Corps now 75-year old

Jalandhar: It was a big day on Saturday for the Vajra Corps as it marked the platinum jubilee of its raising day. Vajra Corps or the XI Corps was the first Corps of the Army that was raised post Independence on March 1, 1950. The Corps was raised in Ambala by then Lieut Gen Kalwant Singh but it had got relocated to Jalandhar in July 1951. oc
