Brief: Woman among 3 booked for gangrape

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked three persons, including a woman, on charges of gangraping a minor and criminal conspiracy. The accused have been identified as Bindro of Chak Hathianna village, Bobby of Tarewala village, Ferozepur, and Saabi of Ismailpur village. The mother of the victim complained to the police that the accused Manga and Saabi conspired with Bindro to kidnap and raped her minor daughter on July 25. Raids are being conducted to arrest them. oc

Man booked for cheating

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked a resident on charges of breach of trust and cheating. The accused has been identified as Rannjodh Singh of Mohalla Dherian, Shahkot. Suresh Chandar, a resident of Vikas Nagar, Shahkot, complained to the police that the accused signed an agreement with him for selling his a shop and received Rs 31 lakh for the sale, but did not register the sale deed, thus cheating him and threatening him with dire consequences. oc

Two held for stealing bike

Phagwara: : The Nurmahal police have arrested two miscreants on the charge of stealing a motorcycle. The accused has been identified as Akash Deep and Rahul, both residents of Umrewal Billa village under Mehatpur police station. The accused were coming from the Phillaur side, driving a stolen motorcycle and were arrested at a naka. The police also arrested a thief from Sagowal village. Meanwhile, the Nakodar Sadar police also booked unidentified thieves for stealing gold jewellery from the house of Rannbir Singh of Thabalke village. oc

Booked for causing death

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked an unidentified driver on the charge of causing death by negligence and rash driving. Surjit Singh, a resident of Pati Laksian Malsian village, complained to the police that an SUV driver hit his motorcycle on July 17, seriously injuring him and his wife, who succumbed to her injuries in a hospital. oc

Phagwara: The Lohian Khas police have arrested a proclaimed offender (PO) absconding for the last two years. The accused has been identified as Yatin alias Aman, a resident of Padda colony in Lohian Khas, and wanted in a case of raping a minor. The case was registered in September 2023. The police also arrested PO Gurpreet Singh of Dalla village in Kapurthala. oc

Woman held for selling liquor

Phagwara: The Shahkot police have booked a woman on charges of selling illicit liquor. Investigating officer Sarwann Singh said eight bottles of illicit liquor were recovered from the house of the accused, identified as Dalveer Kaur Nikki, a resident of Mulle Wal village, who managed to flee from the spot. A case under the Punjab Excise Act has been registered against the accused. oc
