Phagwara: A woman riding a scooter was killed on the spot when her Activa was hit by a speeding vehicle near LPU, Chiherru, on Friday evening. The deceased was identified as Paramjit Kaur of Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar. The police have registered a case. OC

Man, son booked for cheating

Hoshiarpur: The police have registered a case against a person and his son for allegedly cheating a man of Rs 3 lakh on the pretext of sending him abroad. Jaspreet Singh of village Kidi Afghana told the police that Kartar Chand of village Harchanda and his son Maninder Singh cheated him of Rs 3 lakh by giving fake visa and ticket of New Zealand. OC

Dowry case against in-laws

Hoshiarpur: The police have registered a case against a person and his father for allegedly seeking dowry. Roshni of Dashmesh Nagar told the police that she was married to Yugesh Kakkar, son of Harish Kakkar, of Phagwara Gate, Jalandhar. She said after marriage, her husband and father-in-law harassed her and threw her out of the house. OC

Drugs seized, five arrested

Hoshiarpur: The police arrested five persons for smuggling and seized drugs from them. The police arrested Yugesh Kumar of Bank Colony and recovered 30 gram of narcotic powder from him. While the Model Town police arrested Sohan Lal and Sandeep Kumar from Suthari Khurd and seized 35 gram of narcotic powder from them. The Tanda police arrested Gurwinder Singh of Nandachor and seized 15 gram of heroin from him, while Rekha of Tanda was held and 15,000 ml of liquor seized from her. OC

Jalandhar: The police have arrested two youths involved in drug trade and seized 100 gram of heroin from them. Near Y-Point Harnam Dass Pura, Jalandhar, they spotted a suspicious individual.
