Marking the death anniversary of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) founder Sahib Kanshi Ram Ji, the BSP organised a state-level rally titled “Throne must change – crown must change” at Phillaur on Thursday. Held under the “Save Punjab Campaign,” the mega rally witnessed a massive turnout of supporters from across the state, with strong calls for political change ahead of the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections.

Addressing the large gathering, BSP Punjab president and former MP Dr Avtar Singh Karimpuri asserted that the BSP is committed to forming the government in Punjab in 2027. He accused successive Congress, Akali-BJP and Aam Aadmi Party governments of implementing anti-people policies that have led to rampant unemployment, widespread drug abuse and growing religious intolerance.

Dr Karimpuri claimed that over two lakh youths in Punjab have died due to drugs, while incidents of desecration and attacks on religious places have continued without effective government action. He also criticised the current AAP government for its alleged indifference to atrocities against Dalits and minorities, citing cases of vandalism at Guru Ghars and disrespect toward icons like Dr BR Ambedkar and Bhagwan Valmiki Maharaj. He demanded a public apology from Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and strict action against responsible officials.

Outlining the party’s vision for governance, Dr Karimpuri promised that a future BSP government would provide free education and healthcare, ensure 100 per cent recruitment of teachers in government schools and create large-scale employment opportunities for youth. He referenced the 12.5 lakh government jobs provided during the BSP’s rule in Uttar Pradesh as a model.

The rally was attended by several senior party leaders, including Dr Nachhatar Pal, MLA; Prajapati Ajit Singh Bhaini; Kuldeep Singh Sardulgarh; Chaudhary Gurnam Singh; and Teerath Rajpura. Kulwant Kaur Ji, sister of Kanshi Ram Ji, was present as a special guest. The proceedings were conducted by BSP’s state general secretary, Advocate Balwinder Kumar.
