BTech student wins International award for AI chatbot project ‘Wednesday’

Tanish Kumar, a third-semester student of BTech Computer Science Engineering (AI and ML) at Apeejay Institute of Management and Engineering Technical Campus (AIMETC), has brought laurels to the institute by winning the International Innovation Award at the Agentic AI Hackathon 2025.

The global competition was organised by Ulster University, UK and technically supported by The American Society for Engineers, US. Competing against 108 global teams, Tanish showcased exceptional innovation and technical expertise, securing the first position in the Innovation Award category, an 11th overall global ranking, a Certificate of Innovation and a cash prize of $50 (Rs 4,000).

For his online presentation, Tanish developed a personalised AI chatbot named “Wednesday”, inspired by his day of birth. The chatbot featured advanced functionalities including machine translation, face recognition, sentiment analysis, windows automation, and mobile automation.

Sharing his learning journey, Tanish said, “When I was in my second semester, I took a four-month paid course—Corizo. I learnt a lot about Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning and the Internet of Things. I also kept learning through various YouTube tutorials. My teachers were constant guides, helping me whenever I got stuck.”

Earlier, Tanish had also secured first position in the Inter-College IoT Competition held on Engineers’ Day with his project ‘Smart Car Parking System’. Explaining the concept, he said, “It was a full hardware project designed for parking lots.

The system enabled drivers to know the vacant slots available in real time, helping them choose the best option instead of searching around. In case no slots were available, it informed the driver outside the lot, saving time and effort.”

Congratulating him on his achievements, College Director Rajesh Bagga praised Tanish’s innovative spirit and encouraged him to continue participating in more such competitions in the future.
