Folk songs, giddha, group dance and solo dance were performed by the students. Principal Jaspal Singh participated in this programme as the chief guest. Presenting the cultural programme, students Neha, Ravleen Kaur and Anuradha of the Department of Music, gave a presentation on folk song, ‘geetan da guldasta’ and ‘Mirza’. Sandeep and Rekha Rani of the non-teaching staff performed dance. Similarly, group dance and giddha were presented by the college students. Titles of Miss Teej went to Natasha, first runner-up to Manjit Kaur and second runner-up to Bharti.
Solo dance competition
Eklavya School organised a solo dance competition for Classes III and IV. The theme of the competition was Independence Day and Janmashtmi. Students came in traditional attire and looked very beautiful. Songs for the occasion were played. Navya Sharma of Class IV stood first. She chose the theme of Janmashtmi and Sukhleen Sangha of Class III stood first and she opted for the theme of Independence Day. Other students who came second and third are Harsirat Kaur, Dilpreet and Avneet Kaur. Komal Arora, principal, appreciated the hard work and enthusiasm of students.
Folk dance workshop
A five-day Rajasthani folk dance workshop was held at Police DAV Public School. Renowned Rajasthani folk dance artist Roop Singh Shekhawat passed on his precious skills to the students. He taught steps of Rajasthani folk dance — Chari, Loor, Bajubandh, Ghoomar, Chirmi and Bhavai to the students. Principal Rashmi Vij expressed her gratitude to Roop Singh Shekhawat and presented him a memento on the occasion of the closing ceremony. The students participating in the workshop presented the Rajasthani folk dance on the last day of the workshop. Teachers of the dance department Sweety Sidhana, Lakshmi Kumari and Reena coordinated the workshop.
Inter-house competition
To commemorate Independence Day, an inter-house drawing competition for Classes III -V, slogan writing competition for Classes VI-VIII and poster making competition for the Classes IX-XII were organised at State Public School, Shahkot. Topic for competition was patriotism. Students displayed patriotic zest via posters, slogans and beautiful drawings. The contest was judged by principal Kanwar Neel Kamal, Sukhwant Singh and Sandeep.
Expert talk organised
Kanya Maha Vidyalaya’s PG Department of Computer Science and Applications under the aegis of Computer Club organised an expert talk on the topic of ‘Role of emerging technologies in smart education’. The talk was delivered by Prabhdeep Singh, Department of Computer Science and Engineering, GERA - Graphic Era, Dehradun, virtually. Prabhdeep began the talk by emphasising on the importance of smart education. He enlisted various technologies that suits the need of smart education from the student’s perspective and told the students that the process of smart education involves use of tools and technologies for attaining feedback of students regarding various aspects and evaluating the performance of students on the basis of the feedback received. A total of 168 students attended the session.
Lyallpur principal on sports panel
Dr Navjot, principal, Lyallpur Khalsa College for Women, has been nominated as the president of the GNDU Sports Committee Executive Board (Women) for 2024-25 by GNDU VC. The principal said she dedicated her achievement to all players of the college. She also expressed her gratitude to Balbir Kaur, president, governing council, KCL Group of Institutes.
Eye screening camp
PCM SD Collegiate Senior Secondary School in collaboration with Thind Eye Hospital organised an eye screening camp for students and faculty members. The hospital’s team conducted comprehensive eye check-ups and students with weak eyesight were prescribed perfectly fitting spectacles with lenses tailored to their specific needs. The event proved beneficial as many students received timely eye-care, enabling them to focus on their studies.
Hiroshima Day commemorated
To commemorate the tragic anniversary of atomic bombing of Hiroshima in 1945, a special assembly was organised with an aim to spread the message and need of working towards a world free of nuclear threats. The event included speeches, poem, dance and special quiz, which highlighted the importance of peace, disarmament and International cooperation. Principal Sangeeta Nistandra addressed the students and made the students aware of the need of peace, universal brotherhood and harmony among everyone. TNS
