Due to the bad condition of the road, the danger of a major mishap taking place anytime lurks in the area. But surprisingly, the authorities are not paying any attention to it despite a week having passed after the incident. Meanwhile, the stretch of road falling in Himachal Pradesh is in excellent condition.
The Binewal-Singa road falls in Punjab for about three kilometers and three causeways were built in 2006 during the tenure of the Congress government on the ravines passing through it at three places, whose condition has now deteriorated. Now after the rain, one causeway has been completely washed away from one side while the soil has settled below on the other. Due to this, an accident can happen anytime due to the passing of a heavy vehicle. Apart from this, the road constructed last month has also suffered damage at many places as the soil and road have sunk at many places. Construction work of the road is not yet complete but questions are being raised on the quality of work.
Since the authorities concerned appeared to be in deep slumber even a week after the collapse of the causeway, people themselves have taken to filling bags of soil and placing them on the causeway to indicate to the drivers that the condition of the road is bad from there. Numbardar Chaudhary Baij Nath, former Sarpanch Kulbhushan Kumar, Davinder Rana, Panchayat Samiti member Mohan Lal, Garib Das Beaton, Ramesh Dhiman and Jagdev Singh Mansowal were among those who demanded that the district administration pay immediate attention to this road so that no accident takes place. Mandi Board’s Junior Engineer (JE) Amninder Singh told reporters that the road construction work is not yet complete. The collapsed road will be repaired, the causeway will also be rebuilt. Apart from this, stone walls will be built on both sides of the road.
It may be mentioned that the Binewal-Singa road connects the Beet area in Punjab and Himachal Pradesh. During the reorganisation of Punjab and Himachal Pradesh in 1966, there were 22 villages on both sides in the Beet area. Now in about 60 years, the number of villages in the Beet area of Punjab has increased to 37. Hundreds of vehicles from both sides pass through this road.
