Jalandhar, April 10

A day after AAP State Secretary Harchand Singh Barsat visited the Tajpur Church in Jalandhar, CM Bhagwant Mann today visited the Bishop’s House in Jalandhar ahead of his mega rally in Kartarpur. The Bishop’s house is the residence of the current Apostolic Administrator of the Jalandhar Diocese, Bishop, Agnelo Gracias.

The CM came as the Head of State and our meeting was very fruitful. A cake was cut to celebrate Easter but primarily, (to celebrate) the joy of his visit. — Bishop Agnelo Gracias, Apostolic Administrator of the Jalandhar Diocese

CM Mann — who visited the place with Jalandhar candidate Sushil Rinku and State Secretary Harchand Singh Barsat with local MLAs, stayed at the church for over an hour. During the visit, the CM attended a prayer session at the church, on the premises.

The Bishop handed a memorandum to the CM on behalf of the community raising key issues. CLUs for Catholic Schools and the church’s assistance, if needed, on issues like drug addiction and women empowerment were also discussed.

While the issues of mass conversions and the floating of a new party announced by a congregation of Christian Churches were raised in the state ahead of the bypoll, the AAP has been reaching out to the community for the past two days. On Sunday, Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema had also said that everyone was free to float their own party.
