Couple turns ring ceremony into blood donation drive, collects 30 units

In a refreshing departure from the extravagant celebrations typically associated with weddings, a young couple from Hoshiarpur turned their ring ceremony into a heart-warming blood donation drive. Ayush Sharma and Ankita Sharma, two days before their wedding, made a powerful statement by using their special day to raise awareness about blood donation.

On Sunday night, at the Green Field Marriage Palace on Chandigarh Road, the couple organised a blood donation camp before exchanging rings. Both Ayush (O positive) and Ankita (B positive) donated blood, followed by their relatives and guests. By the end of the ceremony, 30 units of blood were successfully collected — an impactful gesture that deeply touched everyone present.

Notable figures, including Former Cabinet Minister Sunder Sham Arora and Bhai Ghannaiya Sewa Society patron Dilbag Singh, extended their congratulations to the couple and their families for their commendable and socially conscious initiative.

Ayush Sharma, 27, from New Gobind Nagar, runs a paper bag business. A regular blood donor since 2018, he was inspired to start donating after witnessing a patient’s desperate need for blood. He has since donated 45 times and is an active member of a local blood donor association. His fiancée, Ankita, from Bilaspur (Himachal Pradesh), was so inspired by his dedication that she decided to join the cause. When the couple began planning their wedding, they agreed that instead of splurging on expensive gifts or extravagant celebrations, they would focus on spreading the message of “Donate Blood, Save Life.”

Dr Ajay Bagga, Blood Bank In charge of Nawanshahr, who has donated blood 107 times, attended the ceremony and praised the initiative. "I have organised thousands of blood donation camps, but this one is truly unique. Seeing a couple donate blood on the eve of their marriage is a heart-warming example for society. If every celebration included a gesture that could save lives, our world would surely become a better place," he remarked.
