The second day of the Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival (Zone-05), hosted by DAV College, Hoshiarpur, was marked by cultural vibrancy and enthusiastic participation from students representing 25 colleges.

The day commenced with Capt Sanjay Parashar, Founder and CEO of VR Maritime Services Pvt Ltd., gracing the event as Chief Guest. He was warmly welcomed by Dr Anoop Kumar, President of the College Managing Committee and Prof RM Bhalla, Secretary. Principal Prof (Dr) Vinay Kumar highlighted the importance of such festivals in preserving and promoting traditional art forms among the youth.

The festival featured a range of performances and competitions that showcased the rich heritage of Punjab. Traditional Punjabi folk dances like giddha, jhoomar and sammi mesmerised the audience with their rhythmic energy and cultural charm. Musical events including Indian Orchestra, geet, ghazal and folk songs added a melodious dimension to the day’s proceedings. Simultaneously, visual arts competitions such as painting, photography, collage making, clay modelling and rangoli brought forward the creative expression of the participating students.

In the folk song category, Dasmesh Girls College, Chak Alla Baksh secured first place, followed by Government College, Hoshiarpur and Khalsa College, Garhdiwala. The Geet competition was won by SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, with Khalsa College, Garhdiwala and DAV College, Hoshiarpur securing second and third positions respectively. Gidda was dominated by SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur, with BAM Khalsa College, Garhshankar coming second and a joint third awarded to Government College, Hoshiarpur and SPM College, Mukerian. In Ghazal, BAM Khalsa College, Garhshankar took first place, followed by Government College, Hoshiarpur, and Dasmesh Girls College, Chak Alla Baksh. The Indian Orchestra event saw SGGS Khalsa College, Mahilpur emerge victorious, with DAV College, Hoshiarpur in second place and a tie for third between Khalsa College, Garhdiwala and Government College, Hoshiarpur.

In visual arts, Government College, Hoshiarpur secured first place in photography, with DAV College, Hoshiarpur and GGDSD College, Hariana following. The rangoli event was led by GTB Khalsa College, Dasuya, with Government College, Tanda in second, and a joint third between DAV College, Hoshiarpur and Shri Guru Har Rai Sahib College for Women, Chabbewal. SPN College secured first in on-the-spot painting, Government College, Hoshiarpur second, and a joint third went to Government College, Tanda and DAV College, Hoshiarpur. In collage making, DAV College, Hoshiarpur earned the top spot, followed by Khalsa College, Garhshankar, and a shared third place between SPN College, Mukerian and GTB Khalsa College, Dasuya. Clay modelling saw DAV College, Hoshiarpur take first place, SD College, Hoshiarpur second, while Dasmesh College, Mukerian and Khalsa College, Mahilpur jointly secured third.
