The Cycling Federation of India (CFI) is running a talent identification programme to encourage young people at the grassroots level to take up the sport. To this end, Jalandhar’s aspiring cyclists are being invited to participate in the trials on July 28 from 7 am to 6 pm at the Government Arts and Sports College in Jalandhar.

According to Jagdeep Singh Kahlon, convener and Maharaja Ranjit Singh awardee, the objective of the programme is to connect the youth with sports, particularly cycling, in order to promote it in the state.

Under this programme, young cyclists will be selected and sent to the various Cycling Federation of India academies, where they will be provided training, free housing, food and equipment.

The convener stated that promising athletes from all districts of the state would be sent to Delhi for the final trials. Boys and girls (between 12-14) born in 2010, 2011, and 2012 in Jalandhar, Hoshiarpur, Ferozepur and SBS Nagar can take part in these trials. Here, the budding cyclists would have to pass through rounds of broad jump, high jump, 1,600 m run for boys, and 800 m for girls. Interested players should bring along documents to prove their eligibility (Aadhaar card and date of birth certificates) and four passport-sized photographs to the venue. For more information, contact Satinder Singh, a member of the Talent Identification Programme Committee, at 91-9815849927.
