In view of Independence Day, a full dress rehearsal for the district-level event was held on Wednesday at the local Guru Gobind Singh Stadium, where Deputy Commissioner Dr Himanshu Aggarwal hoisted the national flag.

Donning a red-printed turban, the DC inspected the parade and took salute of the march past led by parade Commander Sarvanjit Singh. The parade had contingents of the ITBP, Punjab Police (men and women), Punjab Home Guards, Punjab Battalion NCC boys, Punjab Battalion NCC girls, and the CRPF band.

Tableau depicting the government's policies and achievements of various departments were displayed. During the rehearsal, students from various schools also presented mass PT shows, along with cultural performances, showcasing patriotism by students from different educational institutions.

Following the rehearsal, Aggarwal accompanied by Commissioner of Police Dhanpreet Kaur held a detailed discussion with civil and district police officers, providing directions to ensure the smooth and organised conduct of the district-level event where Sond will hoist the Tricolour as the chief guest. He emphasised that all essential arrangements, including security, traffic, and parking, should be well-coordinated.

Dr Aggarwal also said during the district-level event, families of freedom fighters, martyrs, and officers/employees from various departments, who have demonstrated outstanding performance, will be honoured.

Additionally, the best tableaux will also be selected for reward. Present on this occasion were Joint Police Commissioner Sandeep Sharma, DCP Naresh Dogra, ADC Jasbir Singh, ADC Amaninder Kaur Brar, along with officers from various departments.

Full dress rehearsal in Nawanshahr

A full dress rehearsal was conducted today at the local ITI Ground in Nawanshahr. Deputy Commissioner Ankurjeet Singh unfurled the national flag and took the salute from the marching contingents during the ceremonial event.

Following the flag hoisting, DC Ankurjit Singh, accompanied by Additional Deputy Commissioner Rajeev Verma, and the parade commander, inspected the parade.

The event also featured various cultural and patriotic presentations by school students. Yoga trainers and students from CM Yogshala highlighted the importance of yoga for a healthy lifestyle. Students from Scholar Public School, Jadla, performed a vibrant 'Vande Mataram' act, while Shiv Chand Public School, Sukhpur, presented a choreographed self-defence display. Martial art Gatka was showcased by students of Guru Ramdas International Public School, Mallpur.

DC Ankurjeet Singh said Cabinet Minister for Social Security, Women and Child Development Dr Baljit Kaur will hoist the national flag on August 15 after paying tribute to Shaheed-e-Azam Sardar Bhagat Singh and other martyrs at Khatkar Kalan.

The minister will also honour freedom fighters and family members of martyrs during the Independence Day celebrations.
