DC reviews Nagar Kirtan route ahead of Parkash Purb event

In view of the upcoming Parkash Purb, Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal on Monday conducted an extensive review of the preparations for the grand Nagar Kirtan scheduled to be held in the city on November 4. SSP, Kapurthala, Gaurav Toora, accompanied the DC during the review.

The officers walked the entire route of the Nagar Kirtan, starting from Gurdwara Sant Ghat Sahib to Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib to assess on-ground arrangements. They also visited multiple key points across the city to inspect readiness related to public convenience, safety and traffic management.

Panchal said the district administration has made comprehensive arrangements for security, smooth traffic flow, parking and uninterrupted movement of the sangat. Medical teams have been stationed at various points along the route to provide immediate assistance in case of emergencies.

Considering the expected heavy turnout of devotees, the administration has announced a holiday on November 4 in all government and private schools and colleges falling under the jurisdiction of Sultanpur Lodhi, enabling students and families to participate in the celebrations.

To maintain hygiene and ensure clean surroundings during the procession, the Nagar Council has been directed to intensify sanitation efforts. Additional cleaning staff and machinery have been deployed from Bholath, Nadala Begowal, and Kapurthala to support the operation.

Panchal also held discussions with Gurdwara Sri Ber Sahib’s management, including manager Avtar Singh, and reviewed the arrangements around the gurdwara complex where a large number of devotees are expected to gather.

Toora said elaborate security measures are in place, including deployment of additional police personnel and installation of extra CCTV cameras along the procession route and key locations. He added that designated parking facilities have been set up, and an alternative traffic route plan has been released to ensure hassle-free movement for commuters as well as pilgrims.

Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Navneet Kaur Ball, Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development) Varinder Pal Singh Bajwa, SDM Alka Kalia, DSP Dhirendra Verma and other officials were also present during the inspection.

The DC extended greetings to the Sikh community and appealed to the sangat to participate in the Parkash Purb celebrations with devotion and discipline.
