Thought-provoking Opinions, Expert Analysis, In-depth Insights and other Member Only BenefitsA day after it came to the fore that businessman Vishu Kapoor too has been booked for the accident and death of Jalandhar ex-MP Mohinder Singh Kaypee's son Richie Kaypee, his family on Tuesday pleaded for justice.
The police on Monday deployed cops at the private hospital where Vishu, his wife Shelly Kapoor and daughter Rajvi Kapoor have been under treatment. The Grand Vitara, which Vishu was driving, had also collided with Richie's Fortuner, then rammed into a staircase and railings of a showroom in Model Town on Saturday night.
Vishu and Gursharan Singh Prince (second accused who is on the run since his Creta had hit the Fortuner) have been booked under Section 281 (rash or negligent driving, 125 (a) (act endangering human life), 125 (b) (act endangering life/personal safety), 105 (causing death by rash or negligent act) and 324 (4) (mischief causing damage of Rs 20,000-Rs 1 lakh) of the BNS.
Sudha Kapoor, mother of Vishu Kapoor, said, "My son is himself a victim of the accident. My son, his wife and their daughter were all unconscious in the car after the accident. We do not even know who brought them to the hospital. We have seen videos of the accident. The Creta had collided with the Fortuner, which had turned and then hit into my son's car. So how can my son be an accused? We have all sympathies with the Kaypee family as they lost a youthful son. But it is wrong for the police to add the name of my son in the accident even though he was no where at fault."
Meanwhile, the last rites of Richie were performed today at Model Town cremation ground. Leaders of all political parties, social activists and people from all walks of life attended his cremation. PPCC chief Amarinder S Raja Warring, Jalandhar LS MP Charanjit S Channi and Congress MLA Sukhwinder Kotli were among those who visited his residence to offer condolences. Kaypee had left the Congress to join SAD in 2022.
