Despite tight security arrangements in the city today due to the visit of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann and Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal, some bike-borne youths fearlessly targeted a car parked near an ice-cream shop in Dana Mandi and took away a bag containing Rs 5 lakh cash in it.

Anmol, a resident of Lamma Pind here, who works in a factory, was going to deposit the cash in HDFC Bank located on Sodal Road. As soon as he reached near Gopalnagar Dana Mandi, he stopped the car near an ice-cream shop to drink water. He said, when he returned, he saw the windowpane behind the driver lying broken. He said on seeing the broken glass, he unlocked the car and saw that his bag containing Rs 5 lakh cash was missing. He raised an alarm, following which locals gathered and then he immediately informed the police.

Police officials said it seems someone close to Anmol was involved in the crime. They said from the preliminary investigation, it seems like the miscreants had information that he was carrying Rs 5 lakh. “CCTV cameras installed in nearby shops and houses are being scrutinised,” they added.
