Disaster response force leads rescue, relief as Beas water level rises in Sultanpur Lodhi

The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams have been deployed to evacuate residents from low-lying villages in Sultanpur Lodhi, where the water level of the Beas River has been rising steadily. Acting on early warnings, the district administration had placed SDRF units on alert in advance, enabling a swift and effective response as the situation unfolded.

Deputy Commissioner Amit Kumar Panchal said the rescue teams, led by Inspector Deepak, are working in close coordination with the administration to move stranded residents to safety. In addition to rescue operations, dry ration, silage for livestock and drinking water are being delivered by boats to affected households.

The Deputy Commissioner urged residents of vulnerable areas to relocate immediately to designated relief camps to avoid any loss of life or property.

Meanwhile, comprehensive arrangements have been made to supply ration packs directly to households in the flood-affected villages of Sangra, Rampur Gaura, Baupur Jadid, and Bheed Kadeem. According to DC Panchal, ration distribution is being carried out based on household requirements, with Additional Deputy Commissioner (J) Navneet Kaur Ball personally overseeing the operations. Panchayat secretaries have been deployed to ensure delivery to every needy family, while the Assistant Food Supply Officer of Sultanpur Lodhi has been appointed nodal officer for the process.

SDRF assistance is also being utilised for efficient distribution of relief supplies. The administration has further engaged Anganwadi staff in preparing ration kits, while separate teams have been stationed to provide medicines and other essential medical aid.
