District Language Office organises book donation drive to mark Punjabi Month

The District Language Office, Kapurthala, organised a special book donation event under the campaign “Pustak Daan–Mahadaan”, as a part of its Punjabi Month celebrations.

Eminent writers, scholars, and noted personalities from across the district contributed books to this initiative aimed at promoting reading culture and strengthening community libraries across the district.

A donation ceremony was held at Guru Nanak District Library, Kapurthala, where around 10 rural libraries, 25 primary schools, and several city schools participated. Book sets were gifted to all attending schools and libraries.

District Language Office staff members Manish Kumar and Salman also organised an exhibition featuring books published by the Punjab Language Department. City residents actively participated in the exhibition and purchased books.

Distinguished guests, including Promila Arora, Surinder Singh Sunnar, Dr Harbhajan Singh, Kanwar Iqbal Singh, Sakinder Kaur (Principal, Nawab Jassa Singh Ahluwalia Government College, Kapurthala), Munazza Irshad, and Shahbaaz Khan attended the event and contributed by donating books.

The event also received strong support from Kitaab Manch Kapurthala. Its director Dr Harbhajan Singh, general secretary Swaraj Kaur, and secretary Sukhjeet Kaur played a key role by ensuring that every visitor received at least one book as a gift.

Rakesh Mahajan, Managing Director of MDSD Senior Secondary School, Kapurthala, attended the programme along with his staff.
