Hoshiarpur: The Garhdiwala police have registered a case of alleged harassment of a woman for bringing more dowry. Harpreet Kaur, daughter of Nirmal Singh, a resident of Jamsher Chathiala village of district Jalandhar, has lodged a complaint with the police. She told the police that she was married on November 25, 2018, with Duffer village resident Gurdev Singh. After marriage, her husband allegedly harassed her for more dowry and threw her out of the house for seeing his demand not being fulfilled. The police have registered a case. OC

Two held with intoxicants

Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested two smugglers and seized 83 grams of intoxicating powder from them in two separate cases. The police of city police station have arrested Manish Sharma, alias Mama, a resident Bahadurpur, and seized 35 gm of intoxicating powder from him. In another case, the Model Town police have arrested Sonu, alias Munsha, a resident of Roorka, and seized 50 gm of intoxicating powder from him. Separate cases under the NDPS Act have been registered against them. OC

Four arrested in two theft cases

Hoshiarpur: The district police have arrested four persons by registering two separate cases of theft. Purheeran resident Rajinder Kumar told the police that atta bags and grain sacks were being stolen from his chakki since last a few days. On Wednesday he saw that some unknown thieves were running away after picking up a sack of wheat from his chakki. He raised an alarm and nabbed three persons along with the stolen grain sacks. The accused have been identified as Ghanhaiya Kumar, Rajveer Singh, alias Raja and Pritam Kumar, all residents of Purhiran. In another case, Jarnail Singh, a resident of Satour, complained that Gurdeep Singh, alias Labhu, a resident of his village, was running away after stealing the cable from his tubewell motor, who was nabbed. Minor boy goes missing

Hoshiarpur: The Hariana police have registered a case for luring a minor boy to run away. However, the police did not name anyone. Baby, wife of Ranjit Singh, a resident of Bassi Umar Khan, told the police that her minor son had gone to school from home on April 13 but neither he reached school nor returned home. According to her, some unknown persons have lured his son away. After registering the case, the police have started the search for the boy. OC

Rural football championship

Garhshankar: On the fifth day of the ongoing open 7-A Side Rural Football Tournament orgnised by Sant Baba Hari Singh Sporting Club Kaharpur Rahalli’s team defeated Rampur Sainia 5-4 while Kaharpur-A defeated Mazara Dingrian 6-5. In another match, Bhulewal Rathan defeated Paldi village team 6-5 to enter the next round of the tournament.
