Jalandhar, April 11

The city-based Col Mandeep Grewal’s (retd) family tradition of serving the country continues with the induction of his daughter-in-law, Dr Parneet Grewal, into the defence forces.

She was commissioned as an Assistant Commandant of the Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) on April 7 at a passing-out parade held at the ITBP Academy in Mussoorie, becoming the second member of the fifth generation of the Grewal clan to serve the country, with her husband being the first.

For the Grewal family, serving the country has been a tradition for over 150 years. Dr Parneet Grewal’s father-in-law, Col Mandeep Grewal (retd), a two-time gallantry awardee, shared that his father Major Kuldip Singh joined the Army in 1938 and was a part of the Bengal Engineers Group.

Col Mandeep Grewal himself joined the Army in 1981 as a member of the Dogra Regiment and commanded two units in North East and Kashmir. He was awarded the Sena Medal twice for his exemplary services.

Expressing pride in his daughter-in-law’s achievement, Col Mandeep Grewal said the commitment, hard work, and perseverance she had shown in her journey had been amazing.

He also expressed his admiration for his son Sagardeep Grewal, who is currently posted as the Assistant Commandant (MO), ITBP in Leh, and for his daughter-in-law’s strength, bravery, and unwavering determination. He further said the induction of Dr Parneet Grewal into the defence forces is yet another testament to the Grewal family’s tradition of serving their country.

Col Mandeep Grewal shared that he couldn’t express in words the profound admiration he had for both his son and daughter-in-law for upholding this tradition.

Legacy lives on
