As part of the campaign, the awareness team interacted with the village sarpanch and panchayat members in Beerowal, urging them to motivate local farmers to avoid burning paddy residue. Farmers were sensitised about the severe environmental consequences of stubble burning, including its negative impact on air quality, soil health, and the survival of beneficial organisms.
Agricultural experts present at the event explained that smoke from burning crop residue is a major contributor to air pollution and significantly increases the risk of respiratory and other health problems.
District Programme Officer Jagrup Singh appealed to the farming community to support the district administration’s goal of achieving zero stubble burning cases during this Kharif season.
“If we truly want to protect our environment, we must spread awareness within our communities and encourage one another to adopt eco-friendly farming practices,” he said, stressing the importance of collective responsibility and local involvement.
The campaign forms part of the wider efforts being undertaken across the district to reduce pollution and promote sustainable agriculture through education and community engagement.
