After the seizure of 1.7 kg heroin from drug smuggler Bachittar Singh, the Jalandhar rural police registered a case against him on Sunday. The recent seizure is a part of series of drug cases and disclosures following the arrest of notorious drug smuggler Gurditt Singh on November 22.

SSP (rural) Navjot Singh Mahal said the Kartarpur police during investigation into the Geeta case made the seizure during a naka at Gate Chachowal, Kartarpur and apprehended a motorcycle (bearing registration number PB-09-K-6114). The accused has been identified as Bachittar Singh.

On spotting the police he left the motorcycle and ran into the fields. The police party tried to apprehend him but he managed to escape. The search of the bag dangling on the handle led to recovery of 1,700 gm heroin, a driving licence and a passport issued in the name of Bachitter Singh.

An FIR under Section 21 of the NDPS Act was registered against Bachitter Singh at the Lohian police station. The SSP said the special cell of the Delhi police had apprehended Bachittar’s brother Charanjit Singh, a resident of Latiawal village in Sultanpur Lodhi and seized 5-kg heroin from him.

On revelation of arrested accused Gurditt Singh, the police recovered a truck from Jalalabad and a welding set with the help of which special cabins were being made in truck floors to hide drug consignments.
