Duped by travel agents of Rs 21L, Phagwara youth ends life

A 23-year-old man, identified as Jaswinder Singh, also known as Prince, allegedly died by suicide after reportedly falling victim to an immigration scam involving a fake visa and financial fraud amounting to several lakhs of rupees. Originally from Bhogpur, he was residing at AGI Flats in Khajurla, near Phagwara.

According to the police, Singh consumed a poisonous substance out of distress and later died during treatment at a hospital. A case has been registered against four individuals under Section 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Kuldeep Kaur, mother of the deceased, said she had paid ₹21 lakh to agents in hope of sending herself and her son to Canada. The accused allegedly provided them forged visas and returned their passports. In addition to the cash, the agents also reportedly took possession of their car and house by deceit.

As per the complaint, the accused took Jaswinder to Amritsar and booked a flight to Mumbai under the pretext of further travel, but abandoned him mid-process. When the family attempted to contact the agents, they stopped responding.

Devastated by the betrayal and financial loss, Jaswinder is said to have consumed poison. He was rushed to a hospital, but succumbed to the effects of the substance.

The Phagwara police have filed a case against Surjit Singh Bhatti of Lahdara village; Jassi of Karam Singh Colony, Bhogpur, Sumit Wadhwa of Sudarshan Park, Maqsudan, Jalandhar, and Rakesh Mattu, of Jandihar village under Bhogpur police station .

The deceased had completed education up to the X grade. His father currently resides in England, while his mother is a homemaker.
