After unfurling the national flag, he inspected the parade. During the event conducted at the Police Recruits Training Centre, Jahan Khelan, contingents of the Punjab Police, the Punjab Police women wing, the Punjab Home Guards, NCC cadets, scout and guides performed a grand march past to the tunes played by the Police Band and saluted the chief guest.
Giving a message to the district residents, Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains said with the implementation of the Indian Constitution on January 26, 1950, the country became a Republic. The world’s largest democracy, India, has completed 75 years of its Republic today and the country is celebrating its 76th Republic Day. He said it is the duty of all of us to make this Republic a country of the dreams of the martyrs and we should all contribute to the development of the country by strengthening the unity and integrity of our community. On the occasion, he mentioned the development works carried out by the state government in the state and reiterated his commitment to the welfare of the people of the state.
On the occasion, tableaux depicting development works were also brought out by various departments. The tableaux based on School of Eminence and School of Happiness presented by the Education Department were commendable. A magnificent mass PT show and colourful programmes based on patriotism were presented by school children. The performance of folk dances, giddha and bhangra won the hearts of the people present at the event.
The District Red Cross donated sewing machines, motor tricycles and tricycles to needy persons. Besides, 25 families of freedom fighters, 10 ‘Sangharshi Yodha’ and about 200 personalities who achieved fame in various fields were also honoured.
