The Nakodar market committee shifted a vegetable market to the new grain market after it was de-notified 10 years ago. However, commission agents and sellers of vegetables continue to encroach on municipal roads. Residents complained that it had become a nuisance as traders and agents dumped garbage in front of the main post office, besides hindering the movement of traffic.

They said rising stink from the garbage troubled hundreds of commuters, who used this road to go to the post office. Residents claimed that the issue of encroachment was brought to the notice of the executive officer of the municipal committee (MC) and the Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM), but to no avail.

As per sources in the civic body, officials were under intense political pressure to not take any action to remove encroachments from roads in the town.

Residents demanded that the nagar council should remove encroachments from the road. Despite repeated attempts, no official of the nagar council could be contacted for his version on the issue.
