Ex-gratia of Rs 44 lakh given to families of Jaijon flood victims

A prayer meeting was organised today at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Gurdwara Sahib at Jaijon village in memory of the 11 people who lost their lives flood accident on August 11. The incident occurred when driver of the Innova vehicle was negotiating a season stream at Jaijon village.
Cabinet Minister Punjab Bram Shankar Jimpa and Member of Parliament Dr Raj Kumar Chabbewal expressed their condolences with the families of those killed in the accident. They presented cheques of an ex-gratia amount of Rs 44 lakh to the affected families. The amount was given to the families of the deceased from the State Disaster Relief Fund (SDRF).
Expressing deep grief over the tragic incident, the minister and the MP said that the state government would stand by the bereaved families in this difficult time.
It may be mentioned that the mishap took place on August 11 when an Innova vehicle overturned due to the rapid flow of water in Jeijon choe. A total of 12 people were travelling in the vehicle. Eleven people died in the accident while one person was rescued with the efforts of local residents. The group was going to attend a marriage function at Mahilpur in Hoshiarpur district.
