The Jalandhar Rural Police have arrested a father-son duo involved in armed robberies and seized three sophisticated weapons from their possession.

The accused have been identified as Raj Kumar and his son Rajveer, alias Rohit, both residents of Saidpur Jhiri, Shahkot.

The police have recovered three pistols along with 25 cartridges, nine mobile phones, a smart watch and gold ornaments weighing 60 grams from their possession.

Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Harkamal Preet Singh Khakh said acting on a tip-off, a team from the CIA Staff of Jalandhar Rural Police set up a check point near Udhowal village in Mehatpur and nabbed the accused. Upon searching them, one .32 bore pistol, two cartridges, and two cellphones were seized.

Following further interrogation, the police raided another location in Partappura and seized two more pistols, 23 cartridges, seven mobile phones, a smartwatch and 60 grams of gold ornaments.

He added that preliminary investigations revealed that Rajveer, who is a drug addict, along with his father Raj, had been actively involved in armed robberies and night-time thefts. “The accused would enter houses at night and rob the people at gunpoint, threatening them to hand over mobile phones, cash and valuables,” said SSP Khakh.

He added that during interrogation, the accused disclosed they had procured weapons from Sharanjit Singh, alias Sonu, a resident of Saidpur Jhiri. “We are conducting raids to arrest Sharanjit, who is the main supplier of illegal weapons,” he added.

An FIR has been registered under Sections 305(A) and 309(3) of the BNS and Sections 25, 54 and 59 of the Arms Act against the accused.
