‘Fertiliser Sewa’ launched to support small farmers

In a step towards supporting Punjab’s small and marginal farmers, the Punjab Lit Foundation (PLF), a non-profit organisation known for its social and community welfare projects, has launched an innovative campaign titled ‘Fertiliser Sewa’. The initiative, aimed at helping farmers who lost their crops in recent floods, involves the free distribution of DAP fertiliser to enable them to begin the next sowing season with hope and dignity.

Locally called “Khad Sewa”, the campaign began with distribution drives in villages of Rarra, Tahli and Gandhowal in Hoshiarpur district. The first event was organised under a tree near the gurdwara at Rarra village — symbolising simplicity, unity and transparency. Each eligible farmer received fertiliser bags under PLF’s unique “Sponsor an Acre” scheme, which invites individuals and companies to contribute toward agricultural inputs for needy farmers.

Khushwant Singh, founder of Punjab Lit Foundation said, “Our aim has always been to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with Punjab’s farming community. ‘Fertiliser Sewa’ is another step in our journey of supporting those who nurture the land.”

Sanna Kaushal, co-founder, PLF, and media adviser, National Commission for Women, shared that, “This campaign carries forward the spirit of empathy and quick response to genuine community needs,” she said.

The district Agriculture Department assisted the PLF in identifying eligible farmers owning between one to five acres.

In the first phase, DAP fertiliser was distributed to 103 farmers, covering a total of 172 acres of farmland.
