A devastating fire broke out at the residence of Charan Singh on Friday evening, destroying household belongings estimated to be worth several lakhs and triggering a swift emergency response.

According to residents, thick smoke was seen billowing out from the upper floor of the house, following which neighbours promptly informed the police and the Fire Department.

Fire tenders arrived shortly after and began efforts to control the blaze, which had already engulfed a major portion of the structure by the time help reached.

Preliminary reports indicate that the fire may have originated from an electrical short-circuit, although officials have not ruled out other possibilities. The blaze also caused a temporary power outage in the locality.

The Tribune, now published from Chandigarh, started publication on February 2, 1881, in Lahore (now in Pakistan). It was started by Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, a public-spirited philanthropist, and is run by a trust comprising five eminent persons as trustees.

The Tribune, the largest selling English daily in North India, publishes news and views without any bias or prejudice of any kind. Restraint and moderation, rather than agitational language and partisanship, are the hallmarks of the newspaper. It is an independent newspaper in the real sense of the term.
