Monty Sehgal, spokesperson, Petrol Pump Dealers Association Punjab, alleged that such bowsers were bringing in fuel from across the border and selling it at lesser rates, thus evading taxes of the state. “We demand that the administration should thoroughly check the quality and source of the fuel supplied through these bowsers and ensure that safety protocols are being followed,” said Paramjit Singh Doaba, president of the association.

Association members said such bowsers had come up recently and were seen fuelling vehicles in fields during the harvesting season, posing serious threat to the safety as fuel products were regulated under the Petroleum and Explosive Safety Act rules.

Shahkot Station House Officer (SHO) Jatinder Singh said, “We have registered a case upon receiving a report in the matter from officials of the Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.”
