According to CP Kaur, the arrests took place on Friday during a routine police patrol from Basti Peerdad Road to Leather Complex. Officers noticed a white Scorpio (registration number PB08DQ7865) moving suspiciously and decided to intercept the vehicle. Upon stopping and searching the car, the police found 100 gm of heroin inside.
The accused have been identified as Shivansh and Jonny both residents of Dilbagh Nagar, Basti Bawa Khel; Kanwarpal Singh of Husewal Talwandi village, Kapurthala; Sunil Singh of Basti Danishmanda, Jalandhar and Pankaj Joshi of Dilbagh Nagar.
Following their arrest, a case was registered against them under Sections 21 and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Initial investigations revealed that all five accused had previous cases under the NDPS Act, indicating their ongoing involvement in drug-related crimes.
Reaffirming her department’s commitment to tackling the drug menace, Commissioner Kaur emphasised that Jalandhar Police will continue to take strict action against drug smugglers and dismantle narcotics networks in the city. She urged citizens to cooperate with the police by reporting any suspicious activities and assured that efforts to curb the drug trade would persist without compromise.
