The aid, sent by Sangrur MLA Narinder Kaur Bharaj, was handed over to MP Sant Balbir Singh Seechewal, who has been engaged in relief efforts for the past 23 days.
Of the five trucks, four were loaded with cattle fodder while one carried essential daily-use items. Before delivering the aid at Nirmal Kutia, MLA Bharaj visited Baupur to assess the situation and interact with affected families.
Sant Seechewal said the real extent of damage caused by the floods will only become visible once the water recedes. “This is why relief and rehabilitation work will have to continue for a long time,” he added.
MLA Bharaj praised Seechewal’s tireless work since the onset of the floods, noting that he is well aware of the region’s needs and has reached out to villages like Baupur, Sangra and Rampur Gaura to help people in distress. Seechewal thanked MLA Bharaj and the organisations that have been sending relief material to flood-hit areas.
