The Shaheed-e-Azam S. Bhagat Singh Football Club, Garhshankar, under the supervision of Master Tirath Singh Rattu, Canada, and Jhalman Singh Bains, UK, is organising the 16th annual football tournament and interstate athletic meet from November 17th to 21st at the Olympian S Jarnail Singh Stadium, Senior Secondary School, here. Market committee chairman Baldeep Singh attended the tournament as the chief guest on the fourth day. Encouraging the players, he said such tournaments show the young generation a new path, for which the entire tournament committee deserves congratulations.

Punjab Gujjar Welfare Board Chairman Brig (retd) Raj Kumar attended tournament as the special guest. He interacted with the players, praised the club’s efforts, and encouraged them to avoid drugs and bring glory to themselves, their families, and their region through sports.

On this occasion, the final match of the village-level football tournament was played between Shaheed Bhagat Singh Football Club Garhshankar and Football Club Kukkaran. The Shaheed Bhagat Singh Football Club Garhshankar defeated the Football Club Kukkaran 1-0 to win the cup.

Jhalman Singh Bains honoured the winning teams with a cash prize of Rs 31,000, while the runner-up team received a cash prize of Rs 25,000 and a trophy. Club president Jasvir Singh Rai announced that Shaheed Bhagat Singh’s nephew Kiranjit Singh Sandhu and his wife Manjit Kaur Sandhu would be arriving on the final day of the tournament (Friday, November 21st). He extended an open invitation to all sports enthusiasts in the area to attend the tournament.
