Punjab Legislative Assembly Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan has said that quality education is the key to empowering the women in the state so that they can play a constructive role in the development of society.

‘They need more opportunities’

Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan said women had proved their mettle in several fields, but still, they needed to be given more opportunities so that they could further excel in life.

Addressing a gathering during the ‘Dhiyan di Lohri’ function at Ghurka village near Goraya organised by a welfare society, the Speaker said by giving education and equal participation in decision-making, women could become a lighthouse for society. He said an educated woman could leave a transformative impact on people. He said it was the first time in history that 12 women became MLAs in the 2022 assembly elections.

The Speaker said women had proved their mettle in several fields, but still, they needed to be given more opportunities so that they could further excel in life. He exhorted the girls to attain skill education, which would usher in an era of their empowerment in a real sense and asked them to play a constructive role in society so that society could remember them for their services.

Cabinet Ministers Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal and Bram Shankar Jimpa said the Punjab Government was making best efforts to empower women and taking historic decisions for their welfare. They lauded the welfare society for organizing the event every year to celebrate the birth of a girl child.

They said women had multi-tasking capabilities and they could eradicate the drug menace by leading campaigns against the menace in their areas. Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal announced Rs 5 lakh for the society

Prominent among those present on the occasion included MLA Sheetal Angural, SSP Mukhwinder Singh Bhullar, Chairman Mangal Singh, SDM Amanpal Singh, AAP leader Joginder Singh Mann, Principal Prem Kumar, Deepak Bali and others.
