The Government Teachers Union (GTU) Punjab has requested the state government to extend the deadline for using the mid-day meal grant to purchase utensils.

Union leaders Amandeep Sharma and Jasvir Talwara said teachers are currently forced to spend grants within one or two days. The latest grant for utensils must be used by June 23, but schools need more time.

The department requires quotations from multiple shops and quality-price comparisons, which cannot be done in two days. With schools on summer vacation, the union demands the deadline be extended to July 15 to allow proper utilisation of funds.
