A VB spokesperson said that Head Constable was arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by Sushil Kumar, a resident of Guru Nanakpura. The complainant approached the VB and alleged that the suspects had demanded a bribe of Rs 55,000 for helping him in matrimonial case lodged at the NRI police station. The complainant further said that the suspect had already taken Rs 10,000 as a bribe in advance and was demanding Rs 20,000 more from him.

The spokesperson said the VB after a preliminary enquiry, laid a trap and arrested the suspects red-handed while he was accepting Rs 20,000 from the complainant in the presence of two official witnesses. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act was registered against the suspect at the VB police station, Jalandhar range. The suspect would be produced in a competent court tomorrow.
