District Family Welfare Officer Dr Mandeep Kaur said under the Prime Minister’s Safe Maternity Campaign, a special camp is organised on the 9th and 23rd of every month to check the health of pregnant women. Under this, pregnant women are provided with free medical examination, check-up by a specialist in high-risk women’s diseases, lab tests, medicines, 108 ambulance service, family planning, diet and delivery planning etc. She said that green leafy vegetables and seasonal fruits should be eaten in daily diet and iodised salt should be used for preparing food, which plays an important role in the physical and mental development of the parents. Also, iron folic acid tablets provided free of charge by the Health Department should be taken to prevent loss of blood in the body.
