Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Justice Alok Jain, who is also the Administrative Judge, Sessions Division, Hoshiarpur, inaugurated a creche for the children of litigants, judicial officers, advocates and staff at the New District and Sessions Court Complex here on Saturday. He was accompanied by District and Sessions Judge, Hoshiarpur, Dilbagh Singh Johal, Deputy Commissioner, Hoshiarpur Komal Mittal, SSP Surendra Lamba, District (Hoshiarpur) Bar Association president Ranjit Kumar, judicial officers of the Sessions Division. The new creche facility — Kids Day Care Centre — will accommodate up to 25 children of ages ranging from six months to 6 years.

Justice Alok Jain said efforts should be made to maintain the creche so as to ensure that it remains in a good workable condition catering to the needs of children. He lauded the efforts of the District and Sessions Judge-cum-Chairman, District Legal Services Authority, Hoshiarpur, for providing the creche at the Court Complex which would keep children in a caring atmosphere, away from the court proceedings.

The District and Sessions Judge, Hoshiarpur, informed that children of court staff, lawyers, litigants and judicial officers can avail the facility. The creche has trained staff, besides being equipped with child-friendly furniture, toys, first-aid kit and bunk bed, etc, and it would be functioning from 10 am to 5 pm.

Aprajita Joshi, Chief Judicial Magistrate-cum-Secretary, District Legal Services Authority, Hoshiarpur, informed that the creche was made in conformity with the provisions of the Maternity Benefit Act, 1961, which provides that every establishment having 50 or more employees shall have the creche facility. Parents would be allowed to see their kids any time. Justice Alok Jain was welcomed by members of the District Bar Association at the Bar room.

Addressing the lawyers, and especially the new entrants into the Bar, he said they should always be open to ask their seniors if there is any point which needs to be cleared. “You are far more better in research but when it comes to understanding the fundamentals, senior lawyers have clear fundamentals due to their experience, and for experience, there’s no short cut. Using the digital mode for research is a good, but when you have to understand something, read it from the books,” said Justice Jain, addressing the young lawyers.
