High-voltage wires spark fire in Kapurthala
A massive fire broke out in a haveli (traditional house) at Nadala town in Kapurthala district on Friday afternoon after high-voltage wires reportedly sparked due to a short circuit. The blaze, fanned by strong winds, quickly engulfed the property and caused significant damage.
According to local farmer Bhagwan Singh, around 12.30 pm a minor fire ignited in a nearby vacant plot following sparking from overhead power lines. Singh managed to extinguish the initial fire and returned home. However, shortly afterward, he was informed that the hay (stored fodder) inside his haveli had caught fire.
The fire intensified rapidly due to gusty winds. Singh rushed to the spot and was able to rescue three tethered cattle from the burning structure. He, along with local residents, made efforts to control the flames while awaiting emergency response.
The Nadala police contacted the fire brigade from Bholath, which arrived at the site and managed to bring the blaze under control after considerable effort. Singh, the affected farmer, alleged that he had filed multiple complaints with the Electricity Department about the hazardous high-voltage lines running directly above haveli. “Despite repeated requests, no action was taken. This incident could have been averted,” he stated. He has now demanded immediate removal of the power lines to prevent future fire incidents.
