Hockey championship: J&K, Odisha, Tamil Nadu win matches

Teams from Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), Odisha and Tamil Nadu won three of their respective matches on the final day of the league round of the 14th Hockey India Junior Men National Championship 2024.

The quarterfinal matches of the championship, being organised by Hockey Punjab, would be played on September 16 at the Olympian Surjit Singh Hockey Stadium.

In the first match, J&K defeated Rajasthan 6-2. For J&K, Arun Preet and Jahid Shabir scored two goals each, and Jotveer Singh and Jagmeet Singh scored one goal each. Anurag and Kunal scored one goal each for Rajasthan. Both the teams could not reach quarterfinals.

In the second match, teams from Assam and Arunachal Pradesh were tied at 2-2. Both teams got one point each. Parkil Alam and Hemantan scored one goal each for Assam while Abhishek and Piyush scored one goal each for Arunachal Pradesh. Both the teams could not make it to quarterfinals.

In the third match, Odisha defeated Dadra Nagar Haveli 5-2 to secure first place in their pool. For Odisha, Karan Lakra, Jamson Munda, Abhishek, Wilson and Deepak Pradhan scored one goal each. For Dadra Nagar Haveli, one goal was scored by Anmol Eka and another by Pradeep Pradhan.

In the fourth match, Jharkhand defeated Gujarat by a huge margin of 27-0. This is the highest score of the championship. In the fifth match, Tamil Nadu beat Bengal by a margin of 6-0, but the former could not reach the quarterfinals. Tamil Nadu’s Anand scored four goals for his team.
