Harjinder Kumar, a young man from Daulowal village in Hoshiarpur district, died in Hong Kong due to illness. Though he was hospitalised for some time there, he passed away recently.

An agent had sent Harjinder to Hong Kong to help him reach Australia. However, he was arrested by the Hong Kong police on the way. Since then nothing had been known about him for a long time.

His brother Hardeep Kumar said Harjinder had gone to Australia in 2013 through a travel agent in Jalandhar, but when he reached Hong Kong, he was arrested by the police there. About four years later, he came out of prison and started working in Hong Kong.

Harjinder is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Hardeep said they had urged MLA Dr Ravjot Singh to help them bring back his body. “Though the MLA assured us of all possible help, no solution has come out yet,” said Hardeep.

Village sarpanch Ranjit Khokhar said the financial condition of the family was very bad and they were living with great difficulty. He has demanded from the Centre and the Punjab Government to help the victim’s family in bringing back the body of Harjinder.
